Last updated May 2026

The short version

The plain-English summary. The full terms below are what actually applies.

👤
You must be the parent or legal guardian

ChildSafe is for managing a device belonging to a child you have parental responsibility for. It is not for monitoring other adults.

🔕
You choose what is switched on

Monitoring features are off by default. You decide which to enable, and you are responsible for using them lawfully and proportionately.

🛡️
No tool is a substitute for supervision

ChildSafe reduces risk; it cannot remove it. Determined children can find workarounds. Stay involved.

🤖
The AI Learning Buddy is not a counsellor

It is an optional educational tool. It is not a medical, mental-health, or emergency service, and AI answers can be wrong.

💳
Billing is handled by Google Play

Subscriptions, trials, and refunds run through your Google Play account. Cancel any time from there.

📣
We give notice before big changes

If we withdraw a feature or the service, we give reasonable notice and tell you how it affects your child’s protection.

1. Who we are and what this agreement is

ChildSafe (“ChildSafe”, “we”, “us”) provides a parental control service for Android devices, consisting of a parent app, a child app, and the supporting online service. These Terms of Service (“Terms”) form a legal agreement between you (the parent or legal guardian using the service) and ChildSafe.

By creating an account, installing either app, or using the service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service. These Terms should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which explains how data is handled.

ChildSafe is operated from the United Kingdom. You can reach us at admin@childsafe.uk.

2. Who can use ChildSafe

To use ChildSafe you must:

Children do not create ChildSafe accounts. All setup and configuration is carried out by the parent or guardian. A child profile holds only a first name or nickname that you choose.

Important ChildSafe must only be installed on a device used by a child you are responsible for. Using it to monitor another adult, a partner, or any person you do not have lawful authority over — for example to track, surveil, or control them — is strictly prohibited and may be a criminal offence.

3. What the service does

ChildSafe helps you manage and protect your child’s Android device. Depending on what you choose to enable, this can include screen-time limits, app management, web content filtering, location, geofencing, lost-device tools, optional monitoring features (call logs, SMS, app notifications, keyword alerts, browsing activity), on-device image safety scanning, and the optional AI Learning Buddy.

Enforcement is delivered through Google’s Android Management API, an on-device accessibility service, and network-level DNS content filtering. The child app is installed as a managed app and is designed so that it cannot be removed by the child without resetting the device.

Monitoring is off by default. Each monitoring feature is a separate switch that you turn on if and when you choose. You are responsible for deciding which features are appropriate for your child’s age and circumstances, and for using them proportionately.

4. Your responsibilities

When you use ChildSafe, you agree that:

You are responsible for the choices you make within the service, including which monitoring features you enable and how you act on the information they provide.

5. What ChildSafe can and cannot do

ChildSafe is built to reduce the risks children face online, but no parental control product can eliminate them. You should not rely on it as your only safeguard.

Stay involved ChildSafe works best alongside ongoing conversation and supervision. It is a tool to support your parenting, not a replacement for it.

6. The AI Learning Buddy

The AI Learning Buddy is an optional, parent-enabled feature that gives your child access to an educational AI assistant. It is off unless you turn it on, and you control whether it is available and set a daily message limit.

By enabling it, you agree to the following:

How your child’s messages are processed by our AI provider is explained in our Privacy Policy.

7. Monitoring, data, and privacy

How we collect, use, store, and delete data — and the third-party services involved — is set out in full in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

Because the monitoring features process information about a child, you are responsible for ensuring your use is lawful and appropriate in your circumstances. You can disable any feature, remove a child or device, or delete your account and its data at any time. Account and child deletion is immediate; details of data deletion and backup roll-off are described on our Delete Data page.

8. Subscription, trial, and billing

ChildSafe is offered on a subscription basis, and may include a free trial period. Where you subscribe through Google Play, billing, renewals, trials, and refunds are managed by Google under your Google Play account and Google’s terms.

Some accounts may be provided on a free or test basis at our discretion. We will tell you in advance of any change to pricing that affects you.

9. Availability, changes, and beta status

ChildSafe is under active development and is currently offered as part of a testing programme. Features may change, and the service may occasionally be unavailable for maintenance, updates, or reasons outside our control. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.

We rely on third-party platforms — in particular Google’s device management services — to deliver core functionality. If access to those platforms changes, some features may be affected. If that happens, we will act to maintain your child’s protection as far as we reasonably can, and tell you about material changes.

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will give you reasonable notice (for example by email or in the app) before they take effect. Continuing to use the service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

10. Withdrawing features or the service

If we decide to withdraw a feature or to retire the service, we will:

If the child app is removed, the managed device may need to be reset to return it to normal use. We will provide guidance on this where relevant.

11. Suspension and termination

You can stop using ChildSafe at any time by removing the apps and deleting your account from within the parent app.

We may suspend or end your access if you breach these Terms — in particular the eligibility and acceptable-use requirements in sections 2 and 4 — or where we are required to do so by law or by a platform we depend on. Where it is appropriate and lawful to do so, we will give you notice first.

12. Our liability to you

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability where it would be unlawful to do so — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for any other liability that cannot be limited under the laws of England and Wales. Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected by these Terms.

Subject to that, ChildSafe is provided as a tool to support you, and we are not liable for outcomes that result from the limitations described in section 5, from your own choices about which features to enable and how to act on them, or from the acts of third parties. We are not responsible for loss that was not reasonably foreseeable, or that arises from your use of the service in a way these Terms do not permit.

13. General

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and ChildSafe regarding the service. If any part of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, except that if you live elsewhere in the UK you may bring proceedings in your local courts and the mandatory consumer-protection law of your home nation still applies.
